Have a Safe and Happy Thanksgiving

When I mentioned to my DD that we would probably not be able to invite her family to our Thanksgiving dinner this year, her first reaction was disappointment and her second, an instant later, was joy in anticipation of cooking her own turkey and getting to eat, "all those yummy leftovers!"   There's the silver lining!   It IS going to be a different holiday season this year, but we'll just keep looking for those silver linings and make it the best we can.  Right?

Last year I made these cute matchbook treat holders for everyone.   They contain a Ghirardelli treat and the sentiment "Gobble til you wobble!"   The turkey, naturally, is on a wobble spring and I loved everyone's reaction to the wobbly turkey!

This year, I had to return to card sending for the holiday and here, after many changes, is my final version:

Designer paper from Carta Bella 'Hello Autumn'

Sunny Studio Pretty Pumpkins stamps and dies

Sunny Studio mat Frilly Frames Lattice

Sunny Studio sentiment from Bountiful Autumn embossed with gold Stampendous embossing powder.

Inside:

Sentiment from Design Space plus text - Folk Art Festival

Version 1 - Distress Oxides for a subtler look on the bolder paper.

Version 2 - Distress Ink for a darker, bolder look on the lighter paper.

Time to clean up the chaos and start on some Christmas cards.    Happy Thanksgiving!   : )  Christine

Thanksgiving? Already?

I was astounded to discover that it has been five years since I started making monthly treat boxes for the children at the local shelter.  Where does the time go?  I absolutely love finding something just a little different each month and although I know that the boxes end up ripped to shreds in the garbage, it is my great pleasure to gift the kids with something made with love.
So here's a little look back at five years of Thanksgiving treats - love that turkey, right?

 Doorhangers 2013

2014  Candy corn shaped boxes -  two versions

2015 The tail of a turkey - took me forever to figure out how to stop them falling out!

2016  Left over halloween candy with a cute topper.

2017  So cute!  What would we do without Create A Critter?

2018  I am 'told' that the kids love to get a whole candy bar and so this is simply a wrapped bar with my favorite turkey. (This time with glitter!)

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!   : )  Christine

Thanksgiving Table Place Name Holders

Several years ago, I made place name holders from the newly released Thanksgiving cart.  They were much admired and a couple even disappeared!   It's way past time for an update to my Thanksgiving table and so I went looking for ideas on Pinterest.   I found some very cute teepee holders and was reminded of the teepee cards I made last year.  Aha!  I had seen an easy peasy teepee card on Collette's Digi-re-doo-dah blog that I was sure I could create in Design Space and here it is: -

It's basically a 6 inches wide by 3 inches deep rectangle with a 1 inch triangle welded on the bottom edge.  There are score lines from the center of the top edge of the rectangle to the triangle point, to one of the bottom angles of the triangle and to both bottom corners of the rectangle.  The panels are triangles welded together and you need two large and two small panels.  I glued the 2 small panels and one of the large ones in between the score lines as shown.

The next step is to apply glue to the top edges and fold into a pyramid shape. The second large panel was adhered on the glued side to conceal the join.

After pushing in the score line between the two small panels, the teepee will fold flat (well, flatish!) for mailing or storage.   Easy peasy!

Now the fun part - embellishing!  The "Give Thanks" sentiment comes from Artbooking, and the wheat and feather cuts come from the Thanksgiving cart.  I left the tips of the feathers unglued so that I could insert the place card.  The leaves are cut with dies from Sunny Studios because I just love the added definition to the edge that you get from a little steel die.

Here's just two of the place card holders.  I'm eschewing matchy-matchy this year and making them with different designer papers for the panels.  (I learned the hard way not to use a paper with an obvious one way pattern!!!!)  And, if one or two disappear again, I won't be scrambling to find a piece of paper to match the rest!

It was simple to make a larger card sized version of the teepee place name holder and I'm glad to have this easy peasy template in my DS files.  Thank you for visiting with me today.  : )  Christine

Thanksgiving Box Card

I played at 'Little House on the Prairie' last week as we had two days of power cuts due to a rather nasty wind storm.  The first day it was fun cooking on the wood stove; the second, not so much!  DH trundled out the generator and we ran it for a few hours to recharge the propane stove battery, and keep the freezer and 'fridge nice and cold.  I am so grateful to the PUD guys who worked overtime in the storm to get us up and running again.   I had serious internet withdrawal, I can tell you!  : )

Then on Thursday, it snowed all day!  We were able to get down to pick up Master J. and give him a snow day which was fun, fun, fun!   (Although, he did get upset because the snow kept covering up the images of Thomas on his boots!  LOL!)

It was too cold to spend much time in the craft room, but I did get the SVG Cuts Mistletoe Manor cut out and assembled on the kitchen table over the weekend.  I made a huge mistake which I need to cover up and then I'll share how it came out.  Oooops!

Do you ever feel like you never finish anything?  House cleaning, gardening, cooking, volunteer work, even keeping Cocoa's coat brushed and clipped are never ending tasks!   And don't get me started on the saga of the new, and still unfinished, barn!

The answer, of course, is to download a pattern and make a card.  I love the Autumn box cards from SVG Cuts.   They are relatively simple and yet quite lovely when done.  I chose to do the Thanksgiving box card, but felt the need to add a sentiment and a pie!  I mean, nothing says 'Thanksgiving' like a turkey and a pie, right?

I used shimmer paper for the turkey and the cute patterned paper comes from a 6 x 6 Doodlebug stack.  Isn't that lace panel in the side of the card fabulous?     Well, now that's completed, I'm going back to cleaning the house!  Thanks for visiting with me today.   : ) Christine

Thanksgiving Treats

It was time to make the November treats for the children at OHM and I was determined to make a candy corn shaped box with candy corn and pumpkins inside.  I could NOT find a 'candy corn' box in Design Space but I was sure that I had seen one somewhere.  But where was it?  (I hate those senior moments!) Ugghhh!

Eventually, I came across this 'Teardrop Treat Box' on the Fancy Boxes cart.  Yeah!  Then, I had to learn how to use the slice tool so that I could cut the different layers. Then, I found out that it does not glue together properly.  Then, I found that I had 15 shades of orange card stock none of which were the exact same tone.  Ugghhh!

I added a little bling and tied the top with jute thread and called it cute!   Wait!   Would the little boys want 'bling?'    Ugghhh!  Then, the old brain cells ground into motion and I remembered the BBTB2 Challenge this week - football!  Quickly, I cut out a football from "Life's a Party' and goalpost from 'Team Spirit' and glued them in place.  Double cute.

DH has his instructions for the OHM ladies - the children get to choose whether they have bling or a football.  No sexism here!    Thanks for visiting with me today.  : )   : ) Christine

Thanksgiving Cabin

My sister was packing up to return to White Rock after house and animal sitting for us while we were in the U.K. and I was packing up the Halloween decor.  A doubly sad occasion.  : (   I hated putting away the SVG Cuts Bewitched Cabin.  When all of a sudden, as Thomas says, an idea flew in my funnel!  I would make a cabin for Thanksgiving!   My sister was enthusiastic and full of ideas for the cabin.  And here it is!   Love that wreath on the door.

I did enjoy browsing the images in the Design Space library.  I love having all those choices available in my subscription and while I ended up using carts that I do own, there's no way I would have pulled out all those carts had I been doing it the old way.  Don't you just love the pie cooling on the window sill? That never happens at my house!

Here's the old tree at the back of the house and the leaves blowing around.

And I put the sentiment here on this big back wall.

The paper is from The Pumpkin Patch from DCWV.   I used images from Autumn Celebrations, Thanksgiving, Wild Card, Heritage, and Mickey and Friends to name a few.

The challenge over at FCCB is "Anything Goes!"  It's always fun and inspiring to look at all the entries for this one!  Click on the link and have a look.  : )

I am also adding my cabin at the Linky Party at Craftin' Desert Diva's where the theme is orange and brown.  Great projects here. too.

Thanks for visiting with me today!   Hope you like the cabin, Sister!   : )  Christine

"What does the Turkey say?"

We had quite the PNW rain storm yesterday but that did not deter DH from taking the drift boat out to fish on the Lewis River!  After Dinner, he sat by a roaring fire drying his rods, line, and tackle boxes while watching Monday night football and I escaped to the craft room to get this card out of my head and onto paper!

My three DGC are enamored with Ylvis and the video "What does the fox say?" (I like it too!)   I have been seeing fox cards on Pinterest and wanted to make one for J  with an interactive element.  This is my first try at a teepee card and I love that there are THREE surfaces to decorate!  I used Create a Critter for the fox and the turkey - who is on an action wobble, and the stamp comes from CardzTV.

What to do with left-over Halloween candy...

... fill Thanksgiving treat boxes!  We had a wonderful weekend with our 3 grandchildren but the house went from bright, energetic and noisy, to dark, damp and dull when they left.  Unfortunately, I consoled myself with left-over Halloween candy as I set about cleaning up.  I HAD to do something with it before it all vanished and so I made these little treat boxes for Thanksgiving.

The box pattern comes from the Silhouette store and since I just love that Create A Critter turkey, I added him to the front instead of the one that came with the pattern.  A few leaves cut from the cart at 1" decorate the top.

I am linking my little box to the challenge at Exploring Cricut where the challenge is "Cricut Choice"   Make a card, layout, or paper craft using any cartridge and any theme, but it must include 1 pattern paper, 2 cricut cuts, and 3 different colors.

Treat Boxes

Don't you just love these little treat boxes from Samantha Walker? Linda at the Paper Boutique blogspot featured them this week and I ran right over to the Silhouette store to download the file.  (Like I need an excuse to hang around the on-line store, right? LOL!)

The paper is from my new DCWV Pumpkin Patch stack and I filled the boxes with yummy chocolates.  We are having overnight visitors from Canada this weekend and since Canadian Thanksgiving is coming up soon, I plan to leave these little treat boxes in their room.

It looks like a wet weekend coming up for us.  Hope your weather is better!  Stay dry and thanks for visiting with me.  : ) Christine
